Childlight FAQ’s

Common Questions From Schools

What is ChildLight Schools?

“ChildLight” or “ChildLight Schools” is a network of Charlotte Mason schools committed to growing in and cherishing an educational philosophy that enriches relationships and celebrates a child’s personhood.

What is the history of ChildLight Schools?

When a group of Charlotte Mason schools located in the Atlanta area was looking for a name, we were graciously granted permission by Susan and Ranald Macaulay to use the name “ChildLight”.  This was the name they had originally chosen for schools that would emerge from the philosophy promoted by Susan in her book “For the Children’s Sake”.

ChildLight began in 1995 at a conference where Susan was our keynote speaker.  Since that time, this network of schools has grown to more than a dozen schools.

Who makes up the current ChildLight Schools leadership?

Our founder and director is Bobby Scott, Headmaster Emeritus for Perimeter School in Johns Creek, Georgia.  Current leaders of the original ChildLight Schools include:

  • Billy Creech, Head of School, East Cobb Christian School

  • Pam Stegall, Head of School, Intown Community School

  • Charlene Preg, Head of School, Parkview Christian School

  • Jennifer Winslett, Head of School, Crossroads Christian School

The current Secretary/Treasurer is Karen Tejeda, Assistant to the Head of School, Perimeter School.

What are the qualifications for membership into ChildLight?

ChildLight welcomes schools that possess a desire to grow, (along with other members of ChildLight Schools) in the philosophy, principles, and practices of Charlotte-Mason. Click here for a full list of active membership qualifications.

Not that our schools claim to have perfectly attained the principles but are committed to developing together in that pursuit.

What are the costs and benefits of becoming a ChildLight School?
